SUMMARY:Festival of Sisterhood :: a celebration of music\, art\, and business
DESCRIPTION:Get TICKETS here. \nFestival of Sisterhood is an endeavor to celebrate Feminenergy and Sisterhood of ALL women through the avenues of music\, art\, business\, education and community built on the five pillars of wisdom\, intuition\, empowerment\, authenticity\, and inclusivity. And to commemorate\, we will be releasing merch for those to rep during this Spring’s festival and beyond as Feminenergy happens on the daily. Join us for a multi-artist music and comedy lineup\, happy hour mixer\, women-owned business vendor market\, art exhibition\, and more! \nWhat does it mean to be one of Feminenergy? It is to be one of substance\, deeper than the beauty of what someone may see on the surface of the skin. Regardless of body type or color\, the beauty really shines through in the intelligence\, the passions\, and ambitions. A tiara or ‘S’ on the chest isn’t necessary to prove how strong she is or to define her as a leader. She is one who believes in Love\, but has Love for the self first\, deserves respect of the Heart\, Mind\, Body\, and Soul\, and won’t allow anyone to play games with the Heart\, nor allow deception of the Soul. She is not perfect or flawless\, but it’s her imperfections that make her all the more unique and authentic. Unconditional Love to the core\, Trust\, Respect\, Loyalty and Equality are the most important to her. One of substance\, one who continues to break down walls\, and one who strives to defy stereotypes. She is strong and she is beautiful on the surface but even more gorgeous and stronger in the workings of her Mind\, Heart and Soul. She is of Feminenergy.

SUMMARY:Scott Low & the Blue Bouillon with Chris Stalcup :: country-folk LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Americana from singer-songwriters\, Scott Low & the Blue Bouillon with Chris Stalcup\n\nPurchase tickets HERE. \nScott Low sings songs about things he knows. Since moving from 150-200 shows a year and Athens GA\, Low has founded a fly fishing art music camp\, Hatch Camp and Art Farm. But Scott still sings songs in the American Folk tradition with a touch of Country and Appalachia performing solo or with his band\, The Southern Bouillon. \nWith a wide ranging background stretching from jazz to punk to southern rock\, Low pulls from the things that have shaped him. From Townes and Dylan to Miles and Zappa. But what comes out on stage is an intense rendering of original songs (and a few choice covers). In the summer of 2016\, Scott released THE NEW VINTAGE\, a 2+ year project of songs that fell into the net of Americana/Country and followed it with extensive touring. A more folk album came next with 2018’s BURNING TIRES\, SMOKING GUNS. Then 2020 and Covid brought THE SOUTHERN BOUILLON LIVE. \nInitial comparisons to Jamey Johnson\, Ryan Bingham\, and Hayes Carll have been written by the more Americana press\, but there are touches of Tom Waits\, and Nina Simone that linger in the shadows. \nOver the years Scott has shared the tour stage/road with Jason Isbell\, Chris Stapleton\, Caleb Caudle\, Aaron Lee Tasjan\, Sammy Kershaw\, Shovels & Rope\, Chris Knight\, and many more. For this special performance\, Scott will be performing with his full band.\n \nPassion meets purpose—is the best way to describe the essence of what’s driving Chris Stalcup and the Grange’s gritty and earnest style of songwriting and performing. Based in Acworth\, GA\, theirs is a sound like a bonfire raging behind some small-town dirt-road shanty\, of a band valiantly laying bare its soul while everyone dances wildly\, moonshine drunk in the Southern night. Stalcup and his band channel Gram Parsons-influenced Stones tunes like “Honky-Tonk Women” and “Wild Horses\,” occasionally coming off like a collaboration between Son Volt’s Jay Farrar and Drive-By Truckers’ Mike Cooley. The songs are deeply authentic and unapologetically Southern.\n\nWith Stalcup’s second solo release on DirtLeg Records\, Downhearted Fools\, it has become evidently clear that the Georgia native knows how to write a great song\, and more importantly\, knows how to write a song about what’s real – turning songs of heartache and loss into uplifting choruses of hope\, yearning for redemption through a fearless fever of blistering melodies and soaring harmonies. With an All-Star line-up in the studio and on stage\, their live show is not to be missed. The band sizzles on Neil Young-esque heartstring ballads like “Burnin’ Up These Highways” and “Old Highway 41”\, whipping into a roaring thunder on fan favorites “Mary Jane” and “Into The Wind”. \nOpening shows for artists like Lucero\, Shooter Jennings and .38 Special\, Stalcup & Co has piqued the interest of the Americana press\, from No Depression and Nine Bullets to Routes & Branches and Bucket Full of Nails\, earning stellar accolades along the way… “In a just world\, Stalcup’s name should be included amongst the new breed of artists including Isbell\, Simpson and Stapleton who are marrying tradition and truth.” Eric Risch – Pop Matters \nListening to their records\, it’s as if you’re hearing Stalcup and the Grange from the front row of a smoky dive bar\, kickin’ and gouging in the mud\, blood and beer—the band is tight\, the songs are real\, and Stalcup’s potent yet wounded drawl reaches out\, grabs you\, and pulls you along for the ride. \n\nhttp://stalcupgrange.com\n\nDownhearted Fools Video:\nhttps://youtu.be/9_PXKEaEdL4\n\nMoonshinin’ Video:\nhttps://youtu.be/2nnnKh1q5wA\n\nBurnin’ Up These Highways Video:\nhttps://youtu.be/AEol5U7k0k4\n\nYou\, My First Love Video:\nhttps://youtu.be/80C_tiBkP-o\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Duwayne Burnside\, blues/jazz artist\, LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE. \nGuitarist\, singer\, and songwriter Duwayne Burnside is one of 14 children born to legendary North Mississippi musician R.L. Burnside and his wife\, Alice. He has been a frequent performer with the North Mississippi Allstars since the early 1990s\, when that group\, fronted by Luther and Cody Dickinson\, formed. The young Burnside learned his first few guitar licks and chords from his father\, but proved a quick study and soon began playing with local club owner Junior Kimbrough and the Soul Blues Boys. Growing up in Holly Springs\, he was close to Memphis\, and as soon as he was able to get to Memphis\, he did\, and soon had the chance to sit in with Little Jimmy King\, Albert King\, B.B. King\, Bobby “Blue” Bland\, and others. \nDuwayne also began playing in his Dad’s band\, Sound Machine Groove\, where he further honed his skills as a guitarist and showman. He recorded for Hightone and Fat Possum Records with his father’s group before moving to Memphis\, where he opened his own club\, Burnside Kitchen and Grill\, near Highway 61. He booked the music\, cooked the food\, sold the beer\, and had his own band perform there on a weekly basis. \nIn 1998\, Duwayne traveled to Los Angeles to record his first album\, Live at the Mint\, as Duwayne Burnside & the Mississippi Mafia. After returning to Memphis\, he decided to take a break from the bar business and settled back home in Holly Springs. In 2001\, he joined the North Mississippi Allstars on-stage for the first time in Birmingham\, Alabama\, and that led to incessant touring with the band. He recorded with them on their third album\, Polaris\, and is featured on two of the group’s EP’s. In 2004\, he opened another version of the Burnside Blues Cafe in Holly Springs and formed a new band that fused soul blues with hill country blues. His albums under his own name include Live at the Mint (1998) and Under Pressure (2005)\, both for B.C. Records. An album celebrating his father’s life and music remains in the works. One of the last things he asked his father to do — R.L. Burnside passed at age 80 in 2005 — was sing with him at the massive\, popular Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. Burnside continues to tour\, helping to keep the North County\, Mississippi hill-style blues flourishing.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Indie-Folk Artist\, Eliot Bronson\, LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets HERE. \n\nOver the course of six albums\, indie folksinger Eliot Bronson has created his own brand of atmospheric American roots music. He’s an award winner. A road warrior with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. An internationally-renowned songwriter with a voice that swoons and sweeps\, making fans out of everyone from his hometown newspaper\, The Baltimore Sun — who championed Bronson from the very start\, hailing him as “a folk singing wunderkind” back when he was still playing local coffeeshops — to Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb\, whose work on 2014’s Eliot Bronson and 2017’s James placed Bronson on the same client roster as heartfelt songwriters like Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton. \nTalking To Myself marks the most meditative\, melodic album of his career\, with sparse soundscapes that are laced with acoustic guitar\, light touches of keyboard\, and clouds of reverb. When Eliot’s voice enters each song\, it’s like sunlight piercing its way through the fog. “There’s pedal steel\, upright bass\, and a little bit of electric guitar\,” he explains. “Other than that\, it’s just me and Damon.” \nHe’s talking about Damon Moon\, the Atlanta-area producer best known for his work with regional indie rock bands. “Damon usually makes records with louder bands\,” Eliot says\, “and that was interesting to me. I wanted to work with someone who had a different sensibility than I did. He brought a new atmosphere to the album. Instead of playing bass on a song\, we’d use a Moog. Instead of playing a shaker\, we’d use a brush on the side of a tambourine. We wanted to get outside the box of what an Americana folk singer is supposed to sound like.” \nThe result is a 10-song showcase of spacey dream-folk\, with Eliot Bronson pulling triple-duty as singer\, songwriter\, and co-producer. On his previous record\, Empty Spaces\, he wrote about the messy end of a decade-long romance and the start of something new. Portions of Talking To Myself serve as an epilogue to that story\, with songs like “From Rabun Gap” and “Are You Still Mean” measuring the distance between past heartbreak and present resilience. Elsewhere\, Talking To Myself finds Eliot taking stock of\nthe world around him\, turning his personal experience into universal songs about the feelings we all share. “I was writing about loneliness\, isolation\, and reflection\,” he says. “The songs were written or refined during the pandemic\, and that’s what I was doing during that period: reflecting. It’s not a pandemic album\, but it’s one that reflects the depth of an inner-life cultivated in a unique time in our lives.” \nBefore the pandemic hit\, Bronson had already spent a decade on the road\, playing his music to audiences everywhere from Norway to New England. All of that touring came to a halt as the world locked down\, but that didn’t stop Bronson from playing shows at home. “I did nothing but play livestreams\,” he remembers. “I played 165 weekly livestreams over the course of three years\, and I didn’t miss a single week\, ever. Those years felt like a personal bootcamp because I got so much better at playing alone. When it came time to make a new record\, I knew it wanted to honor that growth by putting myself front and center.” \nTalking To Myself was recorded on the outskirts of Atlanta\, where Eliot first built an audience as a member of folk-rock duo The Brilliant Inventions. Before moving to town\, he’d grown up in working-class Baltimore\, within walking distance of the Pentecostal Church where his father and grandfather once preached to congregants who spoke in tongues. His parents drew their inspiration from religion and 1960s counterculture\, but Bronson took his own from the records that filled his father’s collection\, from folk acts like Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon\, and Joni Mitchell to the trailblazing blues duo of Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry. Inspired to make his own music\, he began writing songs as a teenager and eventually relocated to Atlanta\, where he performed with The Brilliant Inventions for years before winning first place in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as a solo act.\nThose writing chops take center stage on new songs like “What I’ve Done With My Life” (a retrospective look at an adulthood spent on the run\, written with all the honesty and lyrical precision of a long-\nlost John Prine track)\, “Wait For Me” (an ethereal love song\, painted with watercolor splashes of reverb and fingerpicked guitar)\, and “Take This The Wrong Way” (a minor-key folk song that’s as haunting as it is gorgeous). Bronson is a diverse songwriter\, bouncing between poetic turns-of-phrase and direct narratives\, and he’s never sounded so compelling as a vocalist. Whether leaping into his falsetto or singing in a woozy croon\, he wrings every ounce of feeling from his lyrics\, bringing those emotions to vivid life.\nTalking To Myself is an album that balances mood and melody\, intimacy and atmosphere\, grounded songwriting and astral\, ambient arrangements. For a songwriter who’s always dealt with the gray area between genres — or\, he puts it\, “the in-between colors that we don’t really have words for” — it’s the next chapter in a story that continues to unfold. \nGet tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Roots in the Round\, multi-songwriter feature LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets HERE. \nOnyx Echelon 85 Enterprises & Canopy & the Roots are coming together to bring a unique take of the “Songwriters in a Round” Showcase to the Gold City as we present “Roots in the Round.” Join us on Saturday\, February 10th as Jayna Jennings\, the Broken String Band\, Mannequin Party\, Perfect Animal\, and Caroline Coleman will be coming together in the intimate speakeasy listening room\, better known as The Roots\, as they weave through their stories of success\, heartache\, and everything in between behind their songs with the strings of authenticity playing a melody that will bring it all together for an unforgettable listening experience. Doors at 7PM\, Show at 7:30PM. \nJayna Jennings \nOnly 2% of the population are redheads and Jayna Jennings\, three-time Josie Music Award winner\, makes music as unique as her fiery hair. Jayna pulls you into her world with her emotive songwriting\, a craft she has been honing for the past 11 years. Her newest album\, Southern Gothic Romance\, set to release later this year\, showcases her most vibrant storytelling yet\, cementing herself as a rooted songwriter and a force to be reckoned with in country/Folk. Southern Gothic Romance was the first single from this new project and Jayna was able to release her first music video for it. The album is a visual album\, so every song will be released with compatible videos and poems alike. She had her first glimpse at international recognition\, when all eight songs from her first album received world-wide radio airplay. She has earned several nominations for prestigious awards\, and has received the honor of Folk/Americana Vocalist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards three years in a row. This year she is nominated in six categories and is excited to walk the red carpet at The Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville\, TN. \nThe Broken String Band \nHailing from the Classic City – Athens\, GA – the Broken String Band is redefining what it means to play folk music. With a live performance that combines alluring\, hard-hitting lyricism and iconic harmonies with thrashing banjo\, stand-up bass\, fiddle\, drums\, and the occasional accordion or flute\, the Broken String Band encapsulates the feel-good vibe of acoustic jamming with a dash of classical culture thrown in for good measure. Though the group fits the appearance of a traditional folk act as they take stage\, great surprise lies in their unexpectedly electrifying style of performing. They’ve got the touch and sincerity from the likes of the Everly Brothers mixed with the grunt and grime of any classic rock & roll band. \nMannequin Party \nMannequin Party is an alternative musician hailing from Athens\, GA. His music is a funky\, fingerstyle amalgamation of folk\, indie rock\, Americana\, and jazz\, and features elusive chord progressions and rhythms paired with hypnotic melodies. \nPerfect Animal \nWhat do you get when you blend shoegaze guitar leads and introspective lyrics? The answer is Perfect Animal. Formed in April 2022\, Eric Peters (vocals /guitar)\, Alex Dauer (bass)\, Justin Stoks (drums)\, and David Burger (guitar) came together with one goal in mind: to take listeners on a sonic journey that transcends all genre boundaries. Drawing inspiration from influential artists such as The Cure\, Mac Demarco\, and Snail Mail\, Perfect Animal personifies the DIY attitude in both their musical and visual storytelling. From producing their own music videos to recording their music in-house\, each release is crafted to create an immersive and authentic experience for the listener – and this experience continues to take new shapes and colors as the band continues to grow. \nCaroline Coleman\nCaroline Coleman is a motorcycle-riding acoustic singer/songwriter from Northeast Georgia drawing on influences from Joni Mitchell\, Stevie Nicks\, Patti Smith and more.

SUMMARY:NEW YEARS EVE with Hughes Taylor LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets HERE. \nAn old soul hailing from Macon Georgia USA\, Hughes Taylor was immediately drawn to the blues when he first picked up the guitar. Two decades later\, he’s become an acclaimed guitarist and songwriter playing a fiery brand of blues-rock whose power trio lineage stretches back to Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Cream and Jimi Hendrix. \nHis latest studio album\, Modern Nostalgia\, is a showcase not only of his signature style as a guitarist but of his overall evolution as a musician\, songwriter\, and producer. Written during the pandemic and recorded at the legendary Capricorn Sound Studios\, it’s a sweet mix of blues\, blues-rock\, and southern rock; a modern successor to the great music that put Capricorn on the map many years ago. Modern Nostalgia was released on CD in July 2021 and has been on the US Blues-Rock Top 50 Album Chart every week for the past 20 months. A limited-edition double vinyl edition was released in June\, 2022. \nFrom age 13\, locked away in his bedroom\, Hughes practiced for hours on end playing along with his favorite guitar heroes. By 14 he was writing his own material and recording demos in his parents’ basement\, while simultaneously developing his live act by playing anywhere anytime with anyone. He was performing professionally before he could legally drive\, and by the time he started college\, creating and performing music was his primary source of income. \nHe self-released his first full-length album of original songs\, Hear My Melody\, in the spring of 2016. Restless followed in early 2018\, sandwiched between graduating with honors in marketing from University of North Georgia and marrying the love of his life. By the summer of 2019\, The Hughes Taylor Band’s sound began to coalesce\, combining his spin on the blues-rock power trio format with the inescapable influence of his hometown heroes\, the Allman Brothers. Good Blues\, Fast\, an album of classics lovingly arranged and interpreted by Taylor was his first release to gain acclaim beyond Georgia and paved the way for the next chapter in his music journey. \nIn January of 2020\, Hughes and his band toured the United Kingdom supporting the Heather Findlay Band. Gaining immediate popularity and positive music press reviews\, the trio returned stateside just as the pandemic halted all tours and local performances. Fortunately\, the last few shows of the tour were recorded\, affording enough good material for the Live in the UK album he released in early 2021. \nIntimately connect to both artist and venue in our lush\, speakeasy-style\, 50 seat listening room. Hear the stories behind the all-original songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. \nDoors open at 9:00pm; show starts at 9:30pm; VIP lounge or balcony seating with table service available by contacting events@canopyandtheroots.com . Locally-sourced craft beer and wine available for purchase.

SUMMARY:Lauren Anderson :: Rock n' Roll with a lotta soul LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets HERE. \nListen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3AoeCSG1zkka1T0WO3dPUJ \nLAUREN ANDERSON performed a livestream from Nashville for Canopy + the Roots during the shelter-in-place and joins us again for her third show and a new release\, “Stand Still”. \nLauren Anderson isn’t shy about sharing her influences. Indeed\, there have been any number of classic and contemporary artists that have left an indelible impression on the musical mantra she’s pursued over the course of her career — Bonnie Raitt\, Etta James\, Eva Cassidy\, Nina Simone\, Whitney Houston\, Beyonce\, and the Pointer Sisters\, among them. Yet\, at the same time\, Anderson isn’t bound to any particular parameters. Instead she’s managed to incorporate those influences into a pursuit of her own passion. It’s a musical journey that continues to flourish\, bringing her growing recognition as a celebrated singer and songwriter with her own contemporary credence. \nThat trajectory has accelerated rapidly over the course of the past seven years with the release of three EPs — Do & Hope\, The Game and Won’t Stay Down — and her first full-length album\, 2015’s Truly Me. In the meantime\, the accolades have kept coming. She was named the 2015 Female Vocalist of the Year by the Midwest Music Awards\, took a first-place finish in the 2018 Wing Dang Doodle Competition and watched with pride as The Game became entrenched in the Top 50 of the Billboard Blues chart five weeks in a row. \nThe press took notice as well. Blues Blast Magazine described said of her\, “Lauren has a strong voice with touch of grit.” Rhythm & Booze noted that she has “ a fabulous powerhouse voice you can’t ignore.” Another publication noted: ”With one foot planted in the territory of her influences and the other pointed in an unexplored direction\, she straddles the border between blues\, soul\, and guitar-driven rock & roll\, finding her own sound somewhere in the middle.” \nMeanwhile\, Anderson’s expanded her following while continuing to reap that critical acclaim. A determined dynamo of a performer adept at both blues and ballads\, she’s ready to add to those accolades with her upcoming album Love On the Rocks\, her most fully realized effort to date. Self-produced and due for independent release this summer\, it will be preceded by four singles slated to appear each month prior to the entire album’s appearance in August — “Stand Still” (April)\, “Back to Chicago” (May)\, “Holdin’ Me Down” (June)\, and “Love On the Rocks” (July). Each offering finds her expounding on the soulful\, seductive style that allows her to break down the boundaries between rock\, blues and classic R&B. \nNot surprisingly then\, the new album fully reflects her own singular sound\, courtesy of a varied set of songs that mostly draw from her own experience. Seven of the nine tracks were written during the pandemic\, when Anderson claims she wrote a song a day for three weeks in a row. \n“Keep On\,” the first of the singles\, is a wailing and riveting gospel-sounding entry. It was accompanied by a music video that included stark images of the pandemic: https://youtu.be/dMkF04TOUSo. \nShe describes the stoic yet soulful “Stand Still” as a more Americana-sounding song\, but the message resonates as well. “It’s about what it feels like when you’re stuck and not going anywhere\,” Anderson says. “Still\, that’s okay when you’re there with someone you love.” \nAnderson calls “Love on the Rocks\,” a co-write with Sandy Ramos and Laureen Smith\, a true collaborative effort. “I came up with the chorus\, but then I got stuck so I brought it to those two ladies and together we finished the song\,” she recalls. “Ironically\, this was the last song I chose to include on this album\, and when the band and I went into the studio\, we had yet to run through it together at that point. I wasn’t sure how it would sound with the full band\, but as soon as everyone started jamming on it\, it came alive. I chose to make it the title track\, and it quickly became one of my favorite songs on the album.” \nThe subtle yet sensual “Holdin’ Me Down” falls under the category of a break-up song. “I sent my guys an acoustic version\, and when we got together to run through it before going into the studio\, Hutch\, my bassist\, came with this badass guitar part\,” Anderson explains. “It really solidifies the soulful 90’s-sounding R&B vibe that the song seemed to call for.” \nOther highlights include “Back to Chicago\,” a performance that combines Anderson’s robust vocals and a sassy\, soulful strut with some ripping fretwork from special guest and guitar great Mike Zito. “I’m Done” and “Just F***ing Begun” are propulsive rockers that allow the energy to soar into the stratosphere. On the other hand\, the easy sway of “The Way I Want” and the resilient resolve implied by “Your Turn” help provide a decided shift in tone and tempo. \n“This album is very true to me\,” Anderson reflects. “I was trying to consciously choose songs for this album that worked well together. I definitely feel like I pulled from some of my seminal influences and was able to find them a fit on each of these tunes.” \nMore about Lauren Anderson: \nIt’s hardly surprisingly then that music has been a vital part of Anderson’s life since early on. Born in Chicago\, her interests were nourished by a family where music played an important part. She first delved into it at the age of eight when she began taking classical piano lessons. That\, in turn\, led her to sing in a choir and eventually undertake classical voice training while still in high school. After attaining a bachelors degree in music\, she earned a Masters Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas. \nFollowing her graduation in 2012\, she became a music therapist\, working with children and at-risk youth. Yet while she relished the experience\, she began to realize that live performance was her true calling. She briefly considered becoming an opera singer\, but quickly decided that the world of popular music was more suited to her style. At first she performed solo\, but later she shared her talents with a band. Then\, after recording a pair of singles at the iconic Ocean Way Studio’s on Nashville’s famed Music Row\, she decided to make a permanent move from Kansas City to Music City in 2017. She now tours full time and continues to make music with an energy and enthusiasm that’s fully invested in the new album. \nIntimately connect to both artist and venue in our lush\, speakeasy-style\, 50 seat listening room. Hear the stories behind the all-original songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. \nDoors open at 7:00pm; show starts at 7:30pm; balcony seating with table service available for add-on; table seating with limited availability on main floor.
