SUMMARY:John Eason :: country simple LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets HERE. \nConnect authentically to the artists by hearing them in our “speakeasy”-styled intimate listening room\, the Roots\, located underground beneath the Canopy social house. Masks are required for entry; touchless temperature screening upon ticket scan. Thank you for helping us help everyone enjoy a SAFE (and state-compliant)evening of live music. \n“I’m just a small town Father\, Veteran and Gypsy brought up on gospel and country music. I was born in the small town of Minden in Louisiana and lived in Cotton Valley\, raised on good manners\, good food and good music\, my family sang gospel all over the place and I always dreamed of being up on stage. Now I can’t say its all gospel cause Honky Tonks and Neon run through my veins I’ve always felt the draw of the stage there listening to the crowd and the clinking of the glasses! \nI took some detours on my way to my music dreams and pursued another passion of mine as a chef\, I attended culinary school and worked in the food industry which I love. My grandmother and mom taught me to cook growing up and I love making good food for people. I try and combine this passion with my music these days with my own BBQ Sauce Renegade BBQ. I lost a bakery during hurricane Katrina while I was in Mississippi which led me to the Military. I spent 8 years with the Air Force and 5 deployments overseas\, I truly loved my time and the brothers and sisters I met there. I get asked all the time whether it was bad overseas and of course there were horrible times but I believe in finding the joy and beauty in all situations. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been was a snowed in valley in Kabul Afghanistan. One of my biggest passions comes from that time in the military\, I suffer with PTSD and I pour that into my music one of my first songs I released “Gun From My Hands” is all about it and the scars you can’t see. I hope I can bring more awareness to PTSD and help my brothers and sisters who suffer like me. \nMusic has always had my heart\, the only thing that has more of it are my daughters Elli Mae and Calli Grace. I could never shake off the nagging feeling I wasn’t doing what I needed to be doing when I wasn’t pursuing my music\, So I packed up sold everything and came down to Nashville to chase my dreams. My Gypsy soul loved selling everything and packing up a $750 pickup truck that wouldn’t reverse and moving to a town where I knew no one! I’ve always been able to as my friends say make friends with a rock so when I got here I wasted no time. Found a job at family owned restaurant called Courtney’s to keep a roof over my head as well fellow Brother in Arms Glen Hanks to live with. I’m always blown away by the amount of talent in Nashville and I’ve met some great songwriters who helped me find my way\, Bill Wolfenbarger has been a constant sounding board and I even had the chance to shake the hand of Whispering Bill Anderson. One of my biggest goals has been to find my sound to put the music in my head out in the world\, my influences are Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Johhny Cash\, Hank Jr\, Waylon Jennings and so many more. Thanks to some great musican and cowriters (which you can find on my Music Family Page) I’ve started to find that sound and I’m beyond thankful to them for that. \nI get asked all the time what my goals in pursuing music are\, am I hear to be famous? Honestly I’m here to pour out the music from my soul and hope it connects with the people who need it. Some folks call my music Country\, some Outlaw Country and some Southern Rock; I call it real and that’s the kinda music I wanna make!” \nSee his video\, “Sing me Back”. \nPurchase tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Thursday Sessions with singer-songwriter\, Josephine Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Connect authentically to the artists by hearing them in our “speakeasy”-styled intimate listening room\, the Roots\, located underground beneath the Canopy social house. Hear the stories behind the songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. Doors open at 8:00pm; show starts at 8:30pm; balcony seating available for VIP add-on or members only. Locally-sourced craft beer and wine available for purchase. Masks are required for entry; touchless temperature screening upon ticket scan. Thank you for helping us help everyone enjoy a SAFE (and state-compliant)evening of live music. Tickets are $8 at the door; call the store for advance purchase.\n \nJosephine Johnson is an artist unafraid to live out her dreams. Her brand of soulful\, earthy\, and transcendent folk feels tender\, coming close-to-the-skin\, while at the same time clearly dredged from the depths. Her voice is vulnerable yet powerful\, reminiscent of the that all-in heart of Janis Joplin\, but with a refinement that sets Johnson’s voice apart.  Johnson knows who she is. Her music presents herself and ideas with a calm strength – like someone who has spent long hours on the road alone\, working problems and dreams into convictions. You can feel it in her voice. \nJohnson was born in rural Greentown\, Indiana and raised singing in church and school musicals. The first of her entire family to go to college\, she attended Savannah College of Art and Design\, then went on to earn a master’s degree in English on scholarship from Humboldt State University. Johnson learned to play ukulele and guitar while at SCAD\, where she also began writing her own music. It wasn’t until after her masters and a career in teaching English that she returned to her true calling. “I realized I couldn’t do both – that there was no way to pursue music as a career while at the same time working on film production or teaching English. It became clear to me a bit later in life that I had to choose what I wanted.” Now fully in control of her own developing musical career\, Johnson says she wouldn’t change it for the world – not her past education\, nor her choices leading up to now\, nor her present life as a singer-songwriter constantly on the road. “I’m single\, I do this all by myself. I’m the booker\, I’m the roadie\, I’m the writer\, I’m the singer… and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” \nJohnson’s breakthrough album\, The Spark (2018)—arranged by famed producer John Vanderslice and keys player Rob Shelton—features eight tracks that blend soul\, country\, and folk into a cohesive\, earnest\, and elaborately beautiful album. \nHer latest EP Double High Five (2021) is a unique release in that it dips her folkie compositions in the otherworldly atmospherics of multi-instrumentalist Andrew Sovine (Ashley McBryde\, Fox Brothers\, Alice Wallace) who arranged\, co-produced\, and played electric guitar\, omnichord\, and slide guitar on the 6-song EP. \nThe Spark \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeHf-x4IyOg\n\nReclaiming My Time\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v89AwBsEeDE\n\nFB: @JosephineJohnsonMusic\nIG: @Josephine.Johnson\nSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4A7dfROH9Cs3XMhlr7hkLL\nBandcamp: https://josephinejohnsonsings.bandcamp.com/album/the-spark\n\nwww.josephinejohnsonsings.com

Tickets are $10 at the door; call the store for advance purchase. \n\nWhat do these three words mean? As the music world will soon learn\, a lot more than you might think. \nThey’re the name of a song — an urgent summons to a young girl\, to run not from danger but toward adventure. They’re the name of a band — one of the few new bands in recent memory that can rock multiple genres\, flaunt resonant harmonies\, and showcase a dynamic lead vocalist whose passion and power demand attention. \nBut there’s another meaning. It’s the inner whisper heard or maybe felt by that vocalist\, Kate Coleman\, that beckoned toward a life where hard work promised independence\, where the best way to express herself was by calling her own shots. \nThat song would surface on her first solo album\, Past.  Already Kate had forged a unique style\, inspired by artists as diverse as Patsy Cline\, Janis Joplin\, Dolly Parton\, and the trio known then as the Dixie Chicks. Each had walked that path that would follow\, leading to that place where emotion\, honesty\, and freedom come together. \nHer journey continues with Running On Love\, featuring the latest music from Run Katie Run. It winds through the restless drive\, complex emotions\, and exhilarating key changes of “15 Minutes\,” travels between the candor and yearning of “Kinda Hoping\,” explores the bitter commentary of “No Way Out\,” riding a current of tight rhythm\, and summits at Kate’s climactic — and frankly stunning — high note in “Running On Love” builds toward an explosive ending. She lays down the law to an irresolute lover on “Stay Or Leave\,” amidst blazing fills and solo breaks from her musicians. And “Stolen Time” confirms Run Katie Run’s ascension as one of today’s best harmony bands. \nWhile Kate is quick to share credit with her bandmates\, the fact is that Run Katie Run centers on her singing\, writing\, and presence. Its story\, then\, traces back to Buffalo\, New York\, her hometown. Her gifts first surfaced through dance. “It was my heart and soul\,” she affirms. “I was sure I was going to be a dancer. Music was just a fun thing for me. \n\n\nBut there were signs that her interests would change. In Kate’s freshman year\, when the time came for her high school’s annual Anything Goes talent show\, her mother suggested that she set aside her dancing and try doing a vocal number instead. \n“She really pushed me hard\,” Kate recalls\, with a smile. “So I did ‘Big Deal’ by Leann Rimes. I don’t think anybody knew I listened to country music let alone sang. But everybody was so impressed! They made me feel like a rock star. From that point\, I was like\, ‘Oh\, okay. I think I get it.’” \nAlthough she would immerse herself in the dance program at Buffalo State College\, music won her allegiance by her senior year. “A couple of my professors were planning on giving me a big feature role in the annual dance concert\,” she remembers. “I think they had high hopes for me. So they were heartbroken when I didn’t do the show. I mean\, dance will always be a part of me. I even have a dance floor in my dining room! But a gut feeling told me then that it was time to choose music.” \nBefore graduating with a degree in dance and communications in 2011\, Kate had joined her first band. Known as Naughty Dawg\, they played cover songs at bars and parties\, where she built her stage chops. Through playing music\, Kate met her husband\, Corey Coleman\, and as their relationship blossomed\, they started playing as a duo throughout the Buffalo area as Kate and Corey. It didn’t take long to realize that they had something special but that it needed to be transplanted to a market where they could earn the recognition they deserved. \n\n\n“Buffalo was a great place\, but as far as doing original music goes\, there wasn’t a whole lot of possibility there\,” Kate explains. “On top of that\, we wanted the whole lifestyle. We wanted to be in a van\, going from city to city in the South because the weather would be more agreeable for that. We thought about moving to Austin for a minute. But because my older sister lives in Georgia\, I was like\, ‘Why don’t we check out Atlanta? There are 40 cities within a three-and-a-half hour radius. We can tour small.” \nSo they made the move. Soon their calendar filled with bookings at clubs and corporate events. They even tried their luck at a national talent search\, the Country Showdown (hosted by Jewel at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium)\, and finished in second place in the final round. More significantly\, at an open mic one night in Georgia\, they were so impressed by a trio called Highbeams. They became mutual admirers and close friends over the next several years\, so it was no surprise that Kate recruited guitarist/banjo player Adam Pendlington\, bassist Stephen Quinn\, and drummer Ian Pendlington to play on her solo album\, Past. Corey played guitar and recorded the album. Then\, as offers started coming in to play at clubs and festivals\, Kate made them an offer that\, luckily\, they couldn’t refuse. \n“I asked\, ‘Can you guys play with me?’” she says. “‘You know the songs already. And we have so much fun just being in a room together. Would you be into keeping this going as a five-piece?’ I wasn’t thinking that this would be my band\, with them backing me up. I was like\, ‘We all write. We all play. We all sing. We can all contribute.’ It was the guys who said\, ‘We’d love to do this\, although it really should be your thing.’ And it was Adam who said\, ‘It should be called Run Katie Run.’” \n\n\nTheir union was kismet. “They never make me feel limited\,” Kate points out. ‘They don’t make me pigeonhole myself or hold me back or tell me\, ‘That’s not country enough\,’ or ‘We need to stick with this.’ Who needs that? Because as long as it’s us making the music\, we’re gonna sound like us.’” \nWhich leads to another truth behind the name of this band. With these five talents combined\, they’ve come a long way in a short time. But there’s still a long path ahead\, with countless opportunities to create and entertain and fulfill their promise. \n\nhttps://www.runkatierun.com/ \n“15 Minutes” (studio demo): \nhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/jw78iinjbef55zm/15%20Minutes%20mp3.mp3?dl=0 \n“Nothing At All” Live in the Studio: \nhttps://youtu.be/1EFFLY-0umk \n“Stay or Leave” Live at EOP Red Clay Music Foundry: \nhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/om8iodj39rkptbx/21.%20Stay%20or%20Leave.mp3?dl=0

SUMMARY:Thursday Sessions with JESS JOCOY :: atmospheric-americana LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS HERE.\nConnect authentically to the artists by hearing them in our “speakeasy”-styled intimate listening room\, the Roots\, located underground beneath the Canopy social house. Hear the stories behind the songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. Doors open at 8:00pm; show starts at 8:30pm; balcony seating available for VIP add-on or members only. Locally-sourced craft beer and wine available for purchase. Masks are NOT required for entry; touchless temperature screening upon ticket scan. Thank you for helping us help everyone enjoy a SAFE (and state-compliant) evening of live music. Tickets are available at the door\, online\, or call the store for advance purchase.\nJess Jocoy makes atmospheric Americana for rainy days and twilight hours. It’s an ethereal sound with organic roots\, anchored by a longtime love of country music\, a storyteller’s nuanced delivery\, and a folksinger’s finesse. A sound that blurs the lines between genres\, creating its own blend of twang and texture along the way.\nRaised two hours south of Seattle\, Jess grew up beneath the drizzling skies and lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. “I’m a mountain girl at heart\,” she says\, nodding to the scenery that shaped albums like her acclaimed debut\, Such a Long Way\, and its 2021 follow-up\, Brighter Eyes\, with the woozy\, watercolored beauty of her native Washington. She created both records in her adopted hometown of Nashville\, a city whose songwriters had first captivated her attention as a child. Morning after morning\, a young Jess would listen to records by Alan Jackson\, Miranda Lambert\, and Shania Twain on her way to school\, building the foundation for the unique sound — a blend of northwestern and southeastern influences — that would eventually take her across America. \nJess’ cross-country travels were brought to a stop in 2020\, when the Covid-19 pandemic halted her touring career. At the time\, she was riding a wave of critical acclaim for Such a Long Way\, a debut album inspired by grief\, gratitude\, the loss of her father\, and the love of creating music. No Depression hailed the record’s “insightful\, open-hearted songs” and “smooth blend of traditional country and folk sounds\,” while American Songwriter praised the “mournful effervescence” of songs like “The Ballad of Two Lovers.” The iconic radio station WSM\, home to the Grand Ole Opry since 1925\, made Jess their “Artist of the Week\,” and her music even made its way onto national television\, where she performed “Easy” during an episode of NBC’s Songland. Those childhood dreams of making her mark in the same town as her musical heroes had finally started to come true\, only to be postponed by a disease that sent the entire world indoors.\nBrighter Eyes was created during those long months spent inside. It’s a self-produced EP about perspective\, filled with songs that explore new storytelling techniques while doubling down on Jess Jocoy’s glimmering sound. She relishes a break from the rat race with the title track\, whose cinematic arrangement makes room for waltzing percussion\, swooning pedal steel\, and contributions from harmonica legend Mickey Raphael. “Constellations” finds her delivering a breezy blast of front-porch folk\, while “Winter” weaves her voice between clouds of reverb and Telecaster guitar. On “Mansion on a Hill\,” she even delivers a nostalgic love song from a husband’s viewpoint. “Just because you’re a woman\, you don’t have to sing about love only from a woman’s perspective\,” she says of the latter song\, whose gender-flipping narration recalls John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” “A great story can be told by anybody.” \nJess Jocoy knows a thing or two about great stories. She’s been writing them for years\, mixing autobiography with richly-imagined fiction\, gluing the whole thing together with a voice that’s every bit as evocative as her songwriting. Brighter Eyes begins a new chapter in her own story\, marking the spot where Jess learned to savor the present while pushing forward toward a better future. \n“I’ve learned how to say\, “It’s ok to have moments of rest\,'” she says. “It doesn’t lessen your ambition. Once I finally wrapped my head around that idea\, I started to see the world with brighter eyes and a new perspective. I started to see music itself in a different light.” \nWith Brighter Eyes\, Jess Jocoy shines on. \n\nWebsite: https://jessjocoy.com\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jessjocoy/\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessjocoymusic/\nSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6LgbXi2f45Xd50VqCPs6Qs?si=WoBVZvqaSJCCETqFPsZt8Q \nLive performance: “Castles Made of Sand” (live at Bluebird Cafe)\nAcoustic Video: “Hope (Such A Long Way)”\n\n—\nSTREAMING:\nTidal – Rising: Folk (Somebody Somewhere) + Cover Feature\nNo Depression – Best Albums of April 2020 (Existential Crossroads)\nDittyTV – Ditty Dozen\n\nAmerican Songwriter “The Ballad of Two Lovers” Track Premiere: “…[the song] has a kind of mournful effervescence as it examines some of the hardest emotions to endure (and the hope that can still exist in the most difficult times). …a moving tribute to love’s dysfunction\, and it shows that something beautiful can still come out of even such a sad situation.”\nAmerican Songwriter “One [Wo]man Band: Coping with COVID-19 Fallout” Essay by Jess Jocoy\n \nGlide Magazine Full Album Stream Premiere:“With its rootsy and heartfelt blend of Americana\, folk and country\, the album finds Jocoy using music to explore what it means to find your place and purpose in the world. …With a powerful voice and an old soul that can be heard in her lyrics\, Jocoy lets her own life experiences transpire to the music\, which itself can veer from sparse and twangy rock… to quiet folk… to big sweeping soul… and bluesy\, poignant roots music… Throughout the album we hear an artist who balances serious songwriting chops with a commanding\, confident voice. …Such a Long Way is an exciting collection of songs from an artist we will undoubtedly be hearing more from in the future.” \n \nNo Depression Album Review: “Jess Jocoy Sings Plainly and Poignantly on Debut Such A Long Way”\n \nThe Boot “Love Her Wild” Track Premiere: “… the slow-burning ode to strong women everywhere.” \n \nAmericana Highways: “Aching to Feel Alive” Track + Lyric Video Premiere & Album Review:“Jocoy sings in a voice that is pure and pretty. SUMMARY:Lauren Anderson :: Gritty Blues-Rock LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Get TICKETS here.\nIntimately connect to both artist and venue in our lush\, speakeasy-style\, 50 seat listening room. Hear the stories behind the all-original songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. \nDoors open at 7:00pm; show starts at 7:30pm; balcony seating with table service available for add-on; table seating with limited availablity on main floor. Locally-sourced craft beer and wine available for purchase. \nLAUREN ANDERSON\n\nLauren Anderson isn’t shy about sharing her influences. Indeed\, there have been any number of classic and contemporary artists that have left an indelible impression on the musical mantra she’s pursued over the course of her career — Bonnie Raitt\, Etta James\, Eva Cassidy\, Nina Simone\, Whitney Houston\, Beyonce\, and the Pointer Sisters\, among them. Yet\, at the same time\, Anderson isn’t bound to any particular parameters. Instead she’s managed to incorporate those influences into a pursuit of her own passion. It’s a musical journey that continues to flourish\, bringing her growing recognition as a celebrated singer and songwriter with her own contemporary credence.\n\nThat trajectory has accelerated rapidly over the course of the past seven years with the release of three EPs — Do & Hope\, The Game and Won’t Stay Down — and her first full-length album\, 2015’s Truly Me. In the meantime\, the accolades have kept coming. She was named the 2015 Female Vocalist of the Year by the Midwest Music Awards\, took a first-place finish in the 2018 Wing Dang Doodle Competition and watched with pride as The Game became entrenched in the Top 50 of the Billboard Blues chart five weeks in a row.\n\nThe press took notice as well. Blues Blast Magazine described said of her\, “Lauren has a strong voice with touch of grit.” Rhythm & Booze noted that she has “ a fabulous powerhouse voice you can’t ignore.”  Another publication noted: ”With one foot planted in the territory of her influences and the other pointed in an unexplored direction\, she straddles the border between blues\, soul\, and guitar-driven rock & roll\, finding her own sound somewhere in the middle.”\n\nMeanwhile\, Anderson’s expanded her following while continuing to reap that critical acclaim. A determined dynamo of a performer adept at both blues and ballads\, she’s ready to add to those accolades with her upcoming album Love On the Rocks\, her most fully realized effort to date. Self-produced and due for independent release this summer\, it will be preceded by four singles slated to appear each month prior to the entire album’s appearance in August — “Stand Still” (April)\, “Back to Chicago” (May)\, “Holdin’ Me Down” (June)\, and “Love On the Rocks” (July).  Each offering finds her expounding on the soulful\, seductive style that allows her to break down the boundaries between rock\, blues and classic R&B. Not surprisingly then\, the new album fully reflects her own singular sound\, courtesy of a varied set of songs that mostly draw from her own experience. Seven of the nine tracks were written during the pandemic\, when Anderson claims she wrote a song a day for three weeks in a row.\n\n“Keep On\,” the first of the singles\, is a wailing and riveting gospel-sounding entry. It was accompanied by a music video that included stark images of the pandemic: https://youtu.be/dMkF04TOUSo.\n\nShe describes the stoic yet soulful “Stand Still” as a more Americana-sounding song\, but the message resonates as well. “It’s about what it feels like when you’re stuck and not going anywhere\,” Anderson says. “Still\, that’s okay when you’re there with someone you love.” Anderson calls “Love on the Rocks\,” a co-write with Sandy Ramos and Laureen Smith\, a true collaborative effort. “I came up with the chorus\, but then I got stuck so I brought it to those two ladies and together we finished the song\,” she recalls. “Ironically\, this was the last song I chose to include on this album\, and when the band and I went into the studio\, we had yet to run through it together at that point. I wasn’t sure how it would sound with the full band\, but as soon as everyone started jamming on it\, it came alive. I chose to make it the title track\, and it quickly became one of my favorite songs on the album.”The subtle yet sensual “Holdin’ Me Down” falls under the category of a break-up song. “I sent my guys an acoustic version\, and when we got together to run through it before going into the studio\, Hutch\, my bassist\, came with this badass guitar part\,” Anderson explains. “It really solidifies the soulful 90’s-sounding R&B vibe that the song seemed to call for.”\n\nOther highlights include “Back to Chicago\,” a performance that combines Anderson’s robust vocals and a sassy\, soulful strut with some ripping fretwork from special guest and guitar great Mike Zito. “I’m Done” and “Just F***ing Begun” are propulsive rockers that allow the energy to soar into the stratosphere. On the other hand\, the easy sway of “The Way I Want” and the resilient resolve implied by “Your Turn” help provide a decided shift in tone and tempo.\n“This album is very true to me\,” Anderson reflects. “I was trying to consciously choose songs for this album that worked well together. I definitely feel like I pulled from some of my seminal influences and was able to find them a fit on each of these tunes.”More about Lauren Anderson:\n\nIt’s hardly surprisingly then that music has been a vital part of Anderson’s life since early on. Born in Chicago\, her interests were nourished by a family where music played an important part. She first delved into it at the age of eight when she began taking classical piano lessons. That\, in turn\, led her to sing in a choir and eventually undertake classical voice training while still in high school. After attaining a bachelors degree in music\, she earned a Masters Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas.\n\nFollowing her graduation in 2012\, she became a music therapist\, working with children and at-risk youth. Yet while she relished the experience\, she began to realize that live performance was her true calling. She briefly considered becoming an opera singer\, but quickly decided that the world of popular music was more suited to her style. At first she performed solo\, but later she shared her talents with a band. Then\, after recording a pair of singles at the iconic Ocean Way Studio’s on Nashville’s famed Music Row\, she decided to make a permanent move from Kansas City to Music City in 2017. She now tours full time and continues to make music with an energy and enthusiasm that’s fully invested in the new album.\n\nLove on the Rocks — At a Glance:\n\nAll songs written by Lauren Anderson\n“Love on the Rocks” co-written by Sandy Ramos & Laureen Smith Produced by Lauren Anderson with assistance from the musicians and Taylor Lonardo\n\nRecorded at Taylor Lonardo Studios\nEngineered\, mixed and mastered by Taylor Lonardo\n\nDrums – Matt Doctor\nBass – Hutch\nGuitar – Jimi Greene\nKeys/Organ – Kiran Gupta\nStrings – Jon and Liz Estes\nGuest Guitarist on “Back to Chicago” – Mike Zito\n\n\nGet TICKETS here.

SUMMARY:A. Lee Edwards :: Americana-Alt. Country Pioneer LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE.\nA. Lee Edwards\, the songwriter behind the bands Lou Ford (1996 – 2009) and the Loudermilks (2009 – present) has been called a pioneer of the Alt-Country / Americana genre. Alan isn’t just versed and influenced by these byproducts\, but the old school country and rock origination points of the music\, and you can hear this in his sound that is intelligent\, lively\, and multi-dimensional. It is music that is direct\, and which can occasionally make you uncomfortable\, but later (sometimes within the same song) console you like that old friend you rarely get to see. \n“Pretty much anyone who’s heard A. Lee Edwards over the past 25 years knows that the former member of the bands Lou Ford and The Loudermilks deserves billing as a poet more so than a songwriter. The man’s got a way with words for sure\, and per new song “South of Sylva\,” his writing muscle’s far from atrophied. Hopefully\, this one’s a sign of things to come from one of North Carolina’s most gifted songsmiths.” \nBobby Moore – Wide Open Country Magazine \nLatest Singles: \nSouth of Sylva \nWords Won’t Do \nwww.aleeedwards.com \nInstagram – @a.lee.edwards \nFacebook – @alanedwardssongwriter \n  \nMost recent singles: \nhttps://youtu.be/nXiRdMwtf0M \nhttps://youtu.be/ll2rvuM-7r8 \nLive Performances: \nhttps://youtu.be/RGxJ1ltE6S8 \nhttps://youtu.be/_qpDtv-J0Gc \nPurchase Tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Lauren Morrow's Christmas Extravaganza LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE.\n“With her self-titled solo EP\, Morrow has struck out on her own\, debuting four songs that showcase her tender songwriting and inward-looking artistic vision.” – Rolling Stone \n“Lauren Morrow—known best as one-half of Nashville-by-way-of-Atlanta duo Whiskey Gentry—puts lyrical fire behind a classic country sound on her four-song solo debut.” – Garden & Gun \n“As she starts a new era of her career\, she needs something to advantageously represent herself that isn’t The Whiskey Gentry\, and this is what she accomplishes with these four songs. But most importantly\, these four songs are really good.” – Saving Country Music \nWith a high-octave range and a Georgia drawl\, Lauren Morrow isn’t here to sing a love song — she’s here to tell a story. And though she might be new to Nashville\, she’s already paved her way as one of the city’s most promising artists. You might know her as the crown jewel of The Whiskey Gentry\, who have toured with Three Dog Night\, Cracker\, and Butch Walker\, appearing on festival bills like Shaky Knees\, MerleFest\, and Bristol Rhythm & Roots (to name a few). \nIn late July 2017\, Morrow and her husband Jason travelled to Nashville to play Oh Boy Records’ John Prine Tribute night\, a intimate gathering where musicians like Jason Isbell\, Kelsey Waldon\, and the Brothers Osborne joined together to benefit legendary artist Jessi Zazu. After witnessing the supportive music community that Nashville had to offer\, Lauren and Jason\, also a member of The Whiskey Gentry\, decided it was time for a change. \nHightailing it back to Atlanta\, they quit their jobs\, packed their things\, listed their on house on the market\, and didn’t look back. Once settled into their new home in East Nashville\, they collectively decided to shift the focus on a new\, more focused project\, simply called Lauren Morrow. Founded on a collaborative mentality\, Morrow recruited an all-star lineup of Nashville’s most notable players\, including drummer Jerry Pentecost\, pedal steel player Whit Wright\, bassist Ted Pecchio\, and former Deer Tick member Robbie Crowell on keys. Less than a year later\, Morrow landed in Creative Workshop’s studio with producer/engineer Parker Cason to create her self-titled solo debut. The four song EP not only showcases Morrow’s flawless vocals and intricate songwriting\, but her willingness to take risks — an edge that makes her stand out from the Nashville norm. \nSet for release October 12\, 2018\, the Lauren Morrow EP is filled with stories; some real\, some fiction\, all universal yet personal. The album begins with the upbeat\, twang-filled “Viki Lynn\,” a sentimental nod to Morrow’s own mother that chronicles the decades of her life. The song grew out of the lyrics\, “Have you ever seen a more beautiful girl alive // than Viki Lynn in 1975” and that aha! moment that everyone has about their parents at some point. “I kept thinking about when you see old pictures of your mom when she’s young\, and you think\, ‘you’re so beautiful\,’” Lauren says\, “And the older you get\, the more you realize that your parents were people before you existed.” \nFading into the softer\, “I Don’t Think About You At All” some might mistake the pedal steel\, somber tune as a sarcastic break-up ballad\, but it’s actually the opposite — a testament to Morrow’s wit-filled\, skilled songwriting. “There’s a line in that show Mad Men where Don Draper get in an elevator with a kid he’s hired to work for him\,” she recants\, “The elevator doors close\, the kid turns to Don and says\, ‘I think you’re an asshole.’ and Don\, without any hesitation\, says\, ‘I don’t think about you at all.’ I thought\, damn that’s good.” While the core of the song was directly inspired by Don Draper\, Morrow’s lyrics depict an attitude that’s timeless\, especially these days. “The words are very true. The lyrics are exactly how I feel some people think about me\, but I have to silence the noise and not care\,” she says\, “I think the best thing to do is say I don’t think about you at all. Get your power back.” \nThe next song opens with Pentecost’s signature\, strong drum techniques and sets the tone for what Morrow calls ‘a less violent version’ of “Fist City” by Loretta Lynn. “I wrote ‘Mess Around’ when I was thinking about someone who I thought was my friend\, only to find out that they weren’t\,” Lauren explains\, “There are women in your life that are gonna lift you up\, and then there are women who are self-serving.” Adding to the lyrics is the dynasticism of each player and their varied talents; Wright came up with the chords\, and Jason Morrow invented the lick\, making this the most collaborative song on the record. \nThe album concludes with a bang\, and in more ways than one. “Barbara Jean” came to light after a night of drinking\, intimate storytelling\, and a Southern secret swept under the rug. “We had just played in Chattanooga\, and Jason went out with a friend whose family was from there. He told Jason that his whole family lived there\, except for his grandma\, who went missing 10 years ago\,” Lauren begins\, “He was like\, ‘Yeah\, her and my grandpa were in a fight\, they went to Lake Nickajack on their anniversary trip\, and my grandma never came home. And then my grandpa got married six months later.’” Coupled with details as eerie as grandma and grandpa\, Jason came home and immediately told Lauren about the (surprisingly) cold case\, which sparked a song idea. “Jason was thinking that we should write it in a minor key and it would be real sad\, but the first thing that popped into my head was that we should write it from the perspective of grandpa\, presumably the killer\, in a major key; which is what it ended up being.” \nIt’s the small details like those that set Lauren Morrow apart. Musically she’s talented\, lyrically she’s talented\, there’s no question to that; but Morrow’s ingenuity shines through in the studio and on stage. Whether she’s singing a murder ballad or an vintage\, classic-country sounding banger\, there’s a unique impression she leaves that lingers. You don’t want to miss it. \nPurchase Tickets HERE.
