SUMMARY:Lauren Morrow's Christmas Extravaganza LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE.\n“With her self-titled solo EP\, Morrow has struck out on her own\, debuting four songs that showcase her tender songwriting and inward-looking artistic vision.” – Rolling Stone \n“Lauren Morrow—known best as one-half of Nashville-by-way-of-Atlanta duo Whiskey Gentry—puts lyrical fire behind a classic country sound on her four-song solo debut.” – Garden & Gun \n“As she starts a new era of her career\, she needs something to advantageously represent herself that isn’t The Whiskey Gentry\, and this is what she accomplishes with these four songs. But most importantly\, these four songs are really good.” – Saving Country Music \nWith a high-octave range and a Georgia drawl\, Lauren Morrow isn’t here to sing a love song — she’s here to tell a story. And though she might be new to Nashville\, she’s already paved her way as one of the city’s most promising artists. You might know her as the crown jewel of The Whiskey Gentry\, who have toured with Three Dog Night\, Cracker\, and Butch Walker\, appearing on festival bills like Shaky Knees\, MerleFest\, and Bristol Rhythm & Roots (to name a few). \nIn late July 2017\, Morrow and her husband Jason travelled to Nashville to play Oh Boy Records’ John Prine Tribute night\, a intimate gathering where musicians like Jason Isbell\, Kelsey Waldon\, and the Brothers Osborne joined together to benefit legendary artist Jessi Zazu. After witnessing the supportive music community that Nashville had to offer\, Lauren and Jason\, also a member of The Whiskey Gentry\, decided it was time for a change. \nHightailing it back to Atlanta\, they quit their jobs\, packed their things\, listed their on house on the market\, and didn’t look back. Once settled into their new home in East Nashville\, they collectively decided to shift the focus on a new\, more focused project\, simply called Lauren Morrow. Founded on a collaborative mentality\, Morrow recruited an all-star lineup of Nashville’s most notable players\, including drummer Jerry Pentecost\, pedal steel player Whit Wright\, bassist Ted Pecchio\, and former Deer Tick member Robbie Crowell on keys. Less than a year later\, Morrow landed in Creative Workshop’s studio with producer/engineer Parker Cason to create her self-titled solo debut. The four song EP not only showcases Morrow’s flawless vocals and intricate songwriting\, but her willingness to take risks — an edge that makes her stand out from the Nashville norm. \nSet for release October 12\, 2018\, the Lauren Morrow EP is filled with stories; some real\, some fiction\, all universal yet personal. The album begins with the upbeat\, twang-filled “Viki Lynn\,” a sentimental nod to Morrow’s own mother that chronicles the decades of her life. The song grew out of the lyrics\, “Have you ever seen a more beautiful girl alive // than Viki Lynn in 1975” and that aha! moment that everyone has about their parents at some point. “I kept thinking about when you see old pictures of your mom when she’s young\, and you think\, ‘you’re so beautiful\,’” Lauren says\, “And the older you get\, the more you realize that your parents were people before you existed.” \nFading into the softer\, “I Don’t Think About You At All” some might mistake the pedal steel\, somber tune as a sarcastic break-up ballad\, but it’s actually the opposite — a testament to Morrow’s wit-filled\, skilled songwriting. “There’s a line in that show Mad Men where Don Draper get in an elevator with a kid he’s hired to work for him\,” she recants\, “The elevator doors close\, the kid turns to Don and says\, ‘I think you’re an asshole.’ and Don\, without any hesitation\, says\, ‘I don’t think about you at all.’ I thought\, damn that’s good.” While the core of the song was directly inspired by Don Draper\, Morrow’s lyrics depict an attitude that’s timeless\, especially these days. “The words are very true. The lyrics are exactly how I feel some people think about me\, but I have to silence the noise and not care\,” she says\, “I think the best thing to do is say I don’t think about you at all. Get your power back.” \nThe next song opens with Pentecost’s signature\, strong drum techniques and sets the tone for what Morrow calls ‘a less violent version’ of “Fist City” by Loretta Lynn. “I wrote ‘Mess Around’ when I was thinking about someone who I thought was my friend\, only to find out that they weren’t\,” Lauren explains\, “There are women in your life that are gonna lift you up\, and then there are women who are self-serving.” Adding to the lyrics is the dynasticism of each player and their varied talents; Wright came up with the chords\, and Jason Morrow invented the lick\, making this the most collaborative song on the record. \nThe album concludes with a bang\, and in more ways than one. “Barbara Jean” came to light after a night of drinking\, intimate storytelling\, and a Southern secret swept under the rug. “We had just played in Chattanooga\, and Jason went out with a friend whose family was from there. He told Jason that his whole family lived there\, except for his grandma\, who went missing 10 years ago\,” Lauren begins\, “He was like\, ‘Yeah\, her and my grandpa were in a fight\, they went to Lake Nickajack on their anniversary trip\, and my grandma never came home. And then my grandpa got married six months later.’” Coupled with details as eerie as grandma and grandpa\, Jason came home and immediately told Lauren about the (surprisingly) cold case\, which sparked a song idea. “Jason was thinking that we should write it in a minor key and it would be real sad\, but the first thing that popped into my head was that we should write it from the perspective of grandpa\, presumably the killer\, in a major key; which is what it ended up being.” \nIt’s the small details like those that set Lauren Morrow apart. Musically she’s talented\, lyrically she’s talented\, there’s no question to that; but Morrow’s ingenuity shines through in the studio and on stage. Whether she’s singing a murder ballad or an vintage\, classic-country sounding banger\, there’s a unique impression she leaves that lingers. You don’t want to miss it. \nPurchase Tickets HERE.

The courageous blend of an authentic soul choosing to exist in the midst of an often inauthentic industry. SUMMARY:Pierce Edens : Appalachian Stringed Instruments + Subtly-Sweet Harmonies LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE. \nStripped Down Gussied Up is a heaping handful of intriguing juxtapositions;paradoxical natures set to play against one another. The result is a complex work that defies easy classification. Lyrics about rage\, love\, murder\, loss\, and rebirth all play out over a lushly treated yet spare musical backdrop that is both acoustic and not; distinctly rooted in Appalachian traditions\, yet unmistakably modern\, sweetly nostalgic\,and urgently current. After years of bar-band\,bombastic rocking bluegrass and blues arrangements (with the occasional departure into classical music and folk) we see Edens taking a more nuanced approach that highlights the talents apparent in both the recording members of the group. Kevin Reese\, making his recording debut with Edens\, shines though with his searing guitar breaks while simultaneously supporting the song in appearances on a myriad of Appalachian stringed instruments and subtly sweet harmonies throughout. Edens\, meanwhile brings his signature twisted vocal bray and dark\, detailed songwriting to bear\, while also adding a muscular rhythm backing both on guitar and percussion. The result yields an impossibly big sound for a duo. From the soaring melancholy of “Sirens” to the haunting heavy thud of “Body” to the ambling good-nature of “It’s Alright\, It’s All Wrong\,” Stripped Down Gussied Up is full and complete work\, masterfully done\, and lovingly touched with humanity\, in all it’s grimy\, glorious idiosyncrasies. \nPurchase Tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Jess Jocoy "Green & Gold" Americana LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE. \nJess Jocoy makes atmospheric Americana for rainy days and twilight hours. It’s an ethereal sound with organic roots\, anchored by a longtime love of country music\, a storyteller’s nuanced delivery\, and a folksinger’s finesse. A sound that blurs the lines between genres\, creating its own blend of twang and texture along the way. \nJess Jocoy knows a thing or two about great stories. She’s been writing them for years\, mixing autobiography with richly-imagined fiction\, gluing the whole thing together with a voice that’s every bit as evocative as her songwriting. Brighter Eyes [her latest release] begins a new chapter in her own story\, marking the spot where Jess learned to savor the present while pushing forward toward a better future. \nAmerican Songwriter “The Ballad of Two Lovers” Track Premiere: “…[the song] has a kind of mournful effervescence as it examines some of the hardest emotions to endure (and the hope that can still exist in the most difficult times). …a moving tribute to love’s dysfunction\, and it shows that something beautiful can still come out of even such a sad situation.” \nAmerican Songwriter “One [Wo]man Band: Coping with COVID-19 Fallout” Essay by Jess Jocoy \nGlide Magazine Full Album Stream Premiere:”With its rootsy and heartfelt blend of Americana\, folk and country\, the album finds Jocoy using music to explore what it means to find your place and purpose in the world. …With a powerful voice and an old soul that can be heard in her lyrics\, Jocoy lets her own life experiences transpire to the music\, which itself can veer from sparse and twangy rock… to quiet folk… to big sweeping soul… and bluesy\, poignant roots music… Throughout the album we hear an artist who balances serious songwriting chops with a commanding\, confident voice. …Such a Long Way is an exciting collection of songs from an artist we will undoubtedly be hearing more from in the future.” \nNo Depression Album Review: “Jess Jocoy Sings Plainly and Poignantly on Debut Such A Long Way” \nThe Boot “Love Her Wild” Track Premiere: “… the slow-burning ode to strong women everywhere.” \nAmericana Highways: “Aching to Feel Alive” Track + Lyric Video Premiere & Album Review:”Jocoy sings in a voice that is pure and pretty. She also has the ability to tell a story that makes you feel like you are right there experiencing the same emotions as the narrators of these tales… It’s hard not to be moved… profound… earnest… Seemingly without any effort\, she creates songs that have universal appeal.” \nAlan Cackett Album Review: “An artist of fierce originality and charisma\, Jess Jocoy is a dynamic singer and equally memorable songwriter\, her soulful vocals and descriptive lyrics excel… it’s just blissful\, ethereal and so brutally honest. …Jess Jocoy embraces the darker\, more sombre aspects of country and Americana. Filled with raw emotion\, intricate guitar melodies and soulful vocals\, her impassioned creations are a joy for your ears to behold. She delivers her songs of heartbreak\, desire\, loss and liberation as if her life depends upon it.” \nSuch A Long Way was recorded by musicians: Will Kimbrough (Emmylou Harris)\, Rob Crowell (Midland\, Deer Tick)\, Michael Rinne (Miranda Lambert)\, and Juan Solorzano (Molly Parden\, Becca Mancari) \nPast gigs of note include: \n– 2019 Contestant on NBC hit-series Songland(ep103) \n– 2019 AmericanaFest official showcasing artist \n– 2019: was invited to play Nashville’s historic Bluebird Cafe three times (2 Sunday Spotlight full-band showcases + 1 Writers Round hosted by Musicians Corner) \n– 2018 Winner of the nationwide Uber Music Movers competition \nPurchase Tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Valley Maker \, Americana Singer-Songwriter LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets HERE. \nWe have all become experts in the imbalance of uncertainty these days\, newly accustomed to canceling plans and tentatively rescheduling them for some future we can only imagine. For Austin Crane—the ruminative songwriter\, riveting guitarist\, and singular voice performing and collaborating as Valley Maker—such a sense of uncertainty has emerged as his steadfast companion these last few years\, a period of profound transition. This flux is the anchor for Crane’s fourth and best album as Valley Maker\, the gorgeous and felicitous When the Day Leaves. \nEarly in 2019\, Crane and his wife\, Megan\, decided it was time to leave Seattle. South Carolina natives\, they’d been in Seattle for nearly a decade while he pursued a doctorate in human geography at the University of Washington\, and she worked as a midwife. As Summer 2019 ended\, they prepared to head east to Columbia\, SC\, rejoining a deep community of friends and moving into a century-old home in need of big love. Still\, major questions loomed: Would they\, just then past 30\, like it enough to stay\, to start a new life? And what did it mean to go home? \nDriven as it is by departure\, When the Day Leaves marks the arrival of Valley Maker as a trustworthy narrator for these shaky times. Crane synthesizes these complex feelings into the magnetic first single\, “No One Is Missing.” A song about reckoning with self-doubt while searching for community\, “No One Is Missing” acknowledges the tension inherent in those ideas\, especially during our polarized era. The swaying “Branch I Bend” is a workaday anthem and an ode to whatever goodness you find\, to recognizing grace in a world that can seem starved for it. \nAll these thoughts are rendered with newfound lyrical richness\, balancing intimate tidbits with universal ambiguity. Crane raises questions only to let them linger\, shaping clouds of geographical and political specifics and asking you to draw out the meaning. During “Mockingbird\,” he sings of moving to his Columbia home and planting a new tree\, tiny details that induce an imaginative diorama for the listener—where does life go from here? \nIn the months before recording began\, Austin convened with producer Trevor Spencer and longtime harmonizing partner Amy Godwin for sessions in Portland and Seattle\, teasing out the album’s interwoven arrangements and meticulous vocal harmonies. Then\, in November 2019\, Crane decamped from Columbia to the Pacific Northwest for a three-week session in the woods outside of Woodinville\, a small town northeast of Seattle at the foot of the Cascades. He stayed in the loft of Spencer’s Way Out Studio\, the collaborators sealing themselves off in a horse barn-turned-recording space like kids at summer camp\, just as winter’s mist closed in. \nThe time commitment is a crucial component of When the Day Leaves. For 46 minutes\, you feel like you’re sitting with Crane in an intricate\, unified sound-world of his design. He offloads his observations about our tangled thicket of hope and fear\, aspiration and exasperation. \nWhen the Day Leaves is an uninterrupted sequence of reflections about the generational limbo of being awed by and worried for this world. The anxiety of uncertainty—always part of life but now seemingly omnipresent—can be vexing\, a reality these songs acknowledge. Crane\, as he sings at one point\, is fully “aligned with my blues.” But these songs also affirm that life is an endless opportunity for renewal\, for trying again. As with dusk\, when the day leaves and “tries to start again” amid a riot of expiring colors\, we eventually learn what comes next. \nPurchase Tickets HERE.

The indie pop breakout track seeks to understand the dichotomy of physical vs. emotional distance in relationships\, brilliantly expressing “what many feel but cannot find the right words to say.” \nMarielle Kraft’s debut studio EP\, “The Deep End” officially released on July 12th\, 2019\, featuring fan-favorite tracks like “Toothbrush” and “Better Without You”. Kraft’s first effort is notably strong both lyrically and sonically\, described by The Music Mermaid as “song after song of mini pop addictions.” \nIn February 2020\, Marielle Kraft co-released an “anthemic” and “heart-filled” single with Joshua Howard entitled “In It Together”\, which has quickly gained support across platforms. \nMarielle Kraft regularly plays at venues across the United States\, sharing stages with names as big as Jon McLaughlin\, Ava Max\, and Betty Who. She presents her live shows as a seamless narrative: evocative yet encouraging\, deeply reflective yet refreshing. The raw authenticity with which Marielle invites listeners into her story cultivates a relationship with them beyond the song\, as she is known to “bring together a room full of strangers.” Her “winning personality\,” “genuine connection”\,” and “gift for story telling” on stage have fueled the ever-growing crowds at each of her shows\, with no signs of slowing down. \nIn spring 2018\, she was crowned Grand Champion of the Mid-Atlantic Singer-Songwriter Competition\, and the following June she delivered a Tedx Talk at Firefly 2018\, discussing the importance of honesty rooted in her songwriting process. \nIn 2021\, Marielle Kraft released 4 singles\, each of which found major traction on TikTok before becoming fully studio produced releases. “Everyone But Me” (February 19th)\, “We Were Never Friends” (March 24th)\, and “Second Coffee” (July 19th) feature a more developed sound than seen from Marielle before\, while her latest collaboration with Charlie Brennan called “Sidelines” (October 29th) reached Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” and Apple Music’s “Breaking Singer/Songwriter” playlists. \nSince leaving her full-time teaching career to pursue a life committed to creating music\, Marielle Kraft has promise to follow suit to artists like Julia Michaels and Maisie Peters as the young songwriter makes a growing impact in the indie pop scene. With more new releases on the way\, Kraft is on track for an even bigger 2022. \n+ + + \n“Kraft’s live show made the room feel like a big family reunion\, with high energy and a supportive atmosphere. Her descriptive songs take the audience right into the heart of each moment.” – The Streaming Department \n“Marielle has this admirable ability to translate the world’s unique\, and shared\, experiences into sweet\, profound tracks that are somehow always exactly what we need at the time.” – The Music Mermaid \n“If you like indie-pop with singer/songwriter flair then it’s a must-hear. The songs from the EP sounded even better performed with a whole band in the live setting…they sounded fuller and had an extra dose of vibrancy.” – Love Is Pop \n“‘Better Without You’ stands out on the EP and is the perfect breakup / female empowerment song.” – Rock On Philly \n“Marielle Kraft finds vulnerability as the avenue to joy\, light\, and truth\, as is rooted in each of her indie-pop songs. Marielle knows who she is\, and that comes across so strongly in her music.” – The Narrative Now Podcast \n“With each passing second\, we allow ourselves to fall more deeply into this incredible soundscape.” – Imperfect Fifth \n “Marielle showed a clever intensity in her material that\, when coupled with her wonderful voice\, pulled the listener into her story.” – Joe Trainor\, Gable Music Ventures \n“Marielle’s songs tap into young women and millennials’ romantic angst and euphoria in a way that feels flavored by Alanis Morissette and Taylor Swift.” – Cheryl Squandrito\, Philadelphia Inquirer \nGet Tickets HERE.

SUMMARY:Lauren Anderson :: Rock n' Roll with a lotta soul LIVE at Canopy + the Roots
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets HERE. \nListen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3AoeCSG1zkka1T0WO3dPUJ \nPresave her new album: https://orcd.co/standstill \nLAUREN ANDERSON performed a livestream from Nashville for Canopy + the Roots during the shelter-in-place and joins us again for her third show and a new release\, “Stand Still”. \nLauren Anderson isn’t shy about sharing her influences. Indeed\, there have been any number of classic and contemporary artists that have left an indelible impression on the musical mantra she’s pursued over the course of her career — Bonnie Raitt\, Etta James\, Eva Cassidy\, Nina Simone\, Whitney Houston\, Beyonce\, and the Pointer Sisters\, among them. Yet\, at the same time\, Anderson isn’t bound to any particular parameters. Instead she’s managed to incorporate those influences into a pursuit of her own passion. It’s a musical journey that continues to flourish\, bringing her growing recognition as a celebrated singer and songwriter with her own contemporary credence. \nThat trajectory has accelerated rapidly over the course of the past seven years with the release of three EPs — Do & Hope\, The Game and Won’t Stay Down — and her first full-length album\, 2015’s Truly Me. In the meantime\, the accolades have kept coming. She was named the 2015 Female Vocalist of the Year by the Midwest Music Awards\, took a first-place finish in the 2018 Wing Dang Doodle Competition and watched with pride as The Game became entrenched in the Top 50 of the Billboard Blues chart five weeks in a row. \nThe press took notice as well. Blues Blast Magazine described said of her\, “Lauren has a strong voice with touch of grit.” Rhythm & Booze noted that she has “ a fabulous powerhouse voice you can’t ignore.” Another publication noted: ”With one foot planted in the territory of her influences and the other pointed in an unexplored direction\, she straddles the border between blues\, soul\, and guitar-driven rock & roll\, finding her own sound somewhere in the middle.” \nMeanwhile\, Anderson’s expanded her following while continuing to reap that critical acclaim. A determined dynamo of a performer adept at both blues and ballads\, she’s ready to add to those accolades with her upcoming album Love On the Rocks\, her most fully realized effort to date. Self-produced and due for independent release this summer\, it will be preceded by four singles slated to appear each month prior to the entire album’s appearance in August — “Stand Still” (April)\, “Back to Chicago” (May)\, “Holdin’ Me Down” (June)\, and “Love On the Rocks” (July). Each offering finds her expounding on the soulful\, seductive style that allows her to break down the boundaries between rock\, blues and classic R&B. \nNot surprisingly then\, the new album fully reflects her own singular sound\, courtesy of a varied set of songs that mostly draw from her own experience. Seven of the nine tracks were written during the pandemic\, when Anderson claims she wrote a song a day for three weeks in a row. \n“Keep On\,” the first of the singles\, is a wailing and riveting gospel-sounding entry. It was accompanied by a music video that included stark images of the pandemic: https://youtu.be/dMkF04TOUSo. \nShe describes the stoic yet soulful “Stand Still” as a more Americana-sounding song\, but the message resonates as well. “It’s about what it feels like when you’re stuck and not going anywhere\,” Anderson says. “Still\, that’s okay when you’re there with someone you love.” \nAnderson calls “Love on the Rocks\,” a co-write with Sandy Ramos and Laureen Smith\, a true collaborative effort. “I came up with the chorus\, but then I got stuck so I brought it to those two ladies and together we finished the song\,” she recalls. “Ironically\, this was the last song I chose to include on this album\, and when the band and I went into the studio\, we had yet to run through it together at that point. I wasn’t sure how it would sound with the full band\, but as soon as everyone started jamming on it\, it came alive. I chose to make it the title track\, and it quickly became one of my favorite songs on the album.” \nThe subtle yet sensual “Holdin’ Me Down” falls under the category of a break-up song. “I sent my guys an acoustic version\, and when we got together to run through it before going into the studio\, Hutch\, my bassist\, came with this badass guitar part\,” Anderson explains. “It really solidifies the soulful 90’s-sounding R&B vibe that the song seemed to call for.” \nOther highlights include “Back to Chicago\,” a performance that combines Anderson’s robust vocals and a sassy\, soulful strut with some ripping fretwork from special guest and guitar great Mike Zito. “I’m Done” and “Just F***ing Begun” are propulsive rockers that allow the energy to soar into the stratosphere. On the other hand\, the easy sway of “The Way I Want” and the resilient resolve implied by “Your Turn” help provide a decided shift in tone and tempo. \n“This album is very true to me\,” Anderson reflects. “I was trying to consciously choose songs for this album that worked well together. I definitely feel like I pulled from some of my seminal influences and was able to find them a fit on each of these tunes.” \nMore about Lauren Anderson: \nIt’s hardly surprisingly then that music has been a vital part of Anderson’s life since early on. Born in Chicago\, her interests were nourished by a family where music played an important part. She first delved into it at the age of eight when she began taking classical piano lessons. That\, in turn\, led her to sing in a choir and eventually undertake classical voice training while still in high school. After attaining a bachelors degree in music\, she earned a Masters Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas. \nFollowing her graduation in 2012\, she became a music therapist\, working with children and at-risk youth. Yet while she relished the experience\, she began to realize that live performance was her true calling. She briefly considered becoming an opera singer\, but quickly decided that the world of popular music was more suited to her style. At first she performed solo\, but later she shared her talents with a band. Then\, after recording a pair of singles at the iconic Ocean Way Studio’s on Nashville’s famed Music Row\, she decided to make a permanent move from Kansas City to Music City in 2017. She now tours full time and continues to make music with an energy and enthusiasm that’s fully invested in the new album. \nIntimately connect to both artist and venue in our lush\, speakeasy-style\, 50 seat listening room. Hear the stories behind the all-original songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. \nDoors open at 7:00pm; show starts at 7:30pm; balcony seating with table service available for add-on; table seating with limited availablity on main floor. SUMMARY:Willow Hill :: modern-country LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS HERE. \nWillow Hill is a burst of color on the canvas of modern country music. The husband and wife duo of Alexandra & C.T. Fields has earned a loyal fan base across the entire United States with Alexandra’s iconic soulful voice and C.T.’s infectious guitar riffs. Having written songs together for over 12 years\, the two enjoyed some national success in their rock group Lovebettie with a Rolling Stone “Band to Watch” mention\, and over 200 dates per year of touring. The band was also a regular name at major festivals like Sturgis\, Rocklahoma\, and Summerfest – where they supported the legendary Pat Benatar. During that time the couple began writing songs outside of the realm of rock and roll\, and finally found where their hearts felt at home… in country music. \nWhile admiring the authentic songwriting of country radio that they were raised on\, and attending festivals like Stage Coach Music Festival and Delaware’s Junction Festival\, Alexandra & C.T. penned the first songs that would be the foundation for Willow Hill\, and recorded their debut EP\, Highway One. Recorded in Nashville’s historic Benchmark studios\, Highway One is produced by Zach Abend with the assistance of Executive Producer Jeff Cohen of As You Wish Music\, who’s credits include songs with Sugarland\, Big & Rich\, and The Band Perry. The Ep has immediately gained steam with some of the industry’s biggest tastemakers\, and is set to make a splash on mainstream country radio. \nConnect authentically to the artists by hearing them in our “speakeasy”-styled intimate listening room\, the Roots\, located underground beneath the Canopy social house. SUMMARY:Jackson Stokes\, Soul-Rock LIVE underground in the Roots' speakeasy.
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist singer-songwriter\, Jackson Stokes\, brings his rock n’roll soul to the Roots’ underground listening room.\nGET TICKETS HERE. \nConnect authentically to the artists by hearing them in our “speakeasy”-styled intimate listening room\, the Roots\, located underground beneath the Canopy social house. Hear the stories behind the songs as the artist(s) share their inspiration and even their heartaches. Doors open at 7:00pm; show starts at 7:30pm; VIP lounge with couches\, booths\, and tables are available to add-on in-store. Locally-sourced craft beer and wine available for purchase. \nFor guitarist and singer-songwriter Jackson Stokes\, great musicians make great neighbors. Even as a youth weaned on classic rock- his first concert was Lynyrd Skynyrd- Stokes was unaware that living across the street from his St. Louis home was guitarist and singer-songwriter Devon Allman. Allman’s family tree is impressive as the son of Gregg Allman and nephew of Duane Allman of Allman Brothers Band fame. Yet\, Stokes knew little of the legendary group. Encouraged by his father\, and holding his guitar\, the 11-year-old Stokes knocked on Allman’s door. \nAllman\, two decades his elder\, heard something special in the young Stokes and encouraged him to continue learning and growing as a musician. Stokes dutifully attended Allman’s Honeytribe rehearsals\, sitting quietly in the corner while the group worked up its repertoire. At 14\, Stokes had developed into a prodigious firebrand with a passion for the blues\, teaming with another area wunderkind\, Marquise Knox\, and performing his first professional gigs. \nBy 18\, his experience playing in high school garage bands\, and with an All-State school jazz band\, expanded his rock-and-roll palette. He attended Drury University in Springfield\, earning a degree in music therapy\, while maintaining a friendship with Allman\, who encouraged Stokes to further sharpen his songwriting skill. In Memphis in 2012\, Allman produced a five-song EP\, Witness\, from the Stokes-led band\, Delta Sol Revival. \nDSR toured regionally until 2016 when Stokes and Allman began discussing recording his solo debut. The pair returned to Memphis for the initial sessions\, as Allman invited Stokes to join the Devon Allman Band for 2017\, and subsequently the Devon Allman Project for a world tour in 2018. On days-off from the road\, Stokes continued work on his album\, organically building the full-length. \nIn May of 2019\, Stokes put the finishing touches on a striking inaugural effort. Produced by Allman\, it is a lean and focused set of rock-and-soul\, including an ambitious Talking Heads cover\, and a depth of original material ranging in style and subjects. From the Memphis stroll of the opening “Can’t Getcha Out\,” through the reflective acoustic closer\, “Take Me Home\,” the debut encompasses Stokes’ wide swath of influences and tastes. There’s the ‘60s R&B update that morphs into modern rock on “Slave\,” the staggering punches of overdriven guitar on “Time is Now\,” and the midnight seduction of “Contents Under Pressure.” A flourish of pleading guitars finishes the slowly climbing blues-rock centerpiece\, “You and Your Partner\,” while David Byrne meets Southern funky on “Life in Wartime.” As well\, Stokes welcomes the sunny-days slide guitar of The Allman Betts Band’s Johnny Stachela to brighten the Southern sway of “Sins Are Forgiven\,” complementing that with the chunky Saturday night blues of “Whiskey.” \nNaturally\, the nine-song record offers plenty of the fiery guitar that has been the calling card of Stokes’ career for this first decade\, showcasing the stellar reputation he’s earned sharing the stage with such icons as Robert Cray\, The Wailers\, and Robert Randolph\, as well as Warren Haynes\, Lukas Nelson\, and Marcus King. Yet\, it’s a conspicuous emphasis on Stokes’ escalating songcraft that also shines as brightly on this initial release. \nGET TICKETS HERE. \n \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hughes Taylor :: Acclaimed R&B/Blues LIVE in the Roots
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS HERE. \nAn old soul hailing from Macon Georgia USA\, Hughes Taylor was immediately drawn to the blues when he first picked up the guitar. Today an accomplished guitar player with a voice that is bigger than he is\, Hughes has developed his signature style: a fiery brand of blues-rock whose lineage stretches back to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Cream. \nHughes released his first full-length album of original songs\, Hear My Melody\, in the spring of 2016. After graduating with honors in marketing from University of North Georgia in late 2017\, Hughes released his sophomore album\, Restless\, just before marrying the love of his life in 2018. In the summer of 2019\, The Hughes Taylor Band released a blues album of classics that had influenced Hughes\, lovingly arranged and interpreted by him\, called Good Blues\, Fast. The Hughes Taylor Band is a blues-rock power trio reminiscent of the Jimi Hendrix Experience\, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble\, and Cream; inescapably influenced by Hughes’s hometown heroes\, the Allman Brothers. Consequently\, long improvisations and jams are a staple of any live Hughes Taylor Band performance. \nWith three studio albums and a live album under his belt\, Hughes released his fourth studio album\, Modern Nostalgia\, showcasing his growth as a musician\, songwriter\, and producer. Written during the pandemic and recorded at the legendary Capricorn Sound Studios\, the music on the new record is a sweet mix of blues\, blues-rock\, and southern rock; a modern successor to the great music that put Capricorn on the map many years ago. Modern Nostalgia is OUT NOW. \n \nListen on Spotify. \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE.
